Comparing blogs

Blogs

I have found 5 different blogs, and I have compared them with each other to find similarities and differences. (the blogs are at the end of this post). We have one blog from The Guardian about News in general, one that is called Watching Washington, that is about politics, one about technology that is also from The Guardian, one about conspiracy theories and one personal blog by Whitney Port. These blogs are all very different in their own way. The news and politic blogs give people important news from around the world, while the technology updates people about for example: I-phone 5 or Facebook etc. The scientology blog is more for those who believe in scientology and what they stand for. The personal blog is by Whitney Port. She is a celebrity, known from the mtv shows The Hills and The City. She blogs about life and fashion. People read her blog because they want to know what she’s been up to lately and also because Port gives a lot of fashion advice.
The first thing I noticed about these blogs is that all the blogs have a blog header, so that we quickly know what the blog is about. Two of the blogs stand out though. The personal and the conspiracy theory blog have the most eye catching header. That is quite important when it comes to blogs, because it’s important to draw people’s attention. By this they use big text and a photo in the background. I would say that the personal blog has the best blog header because it has a big title and the whole headliner is colorful and fancy, and she even added a photo of herself.

When it comes to structure all the blogs are quite similar. First of all, all the blogs are interactive, allowing people to comment on what is posted. In the blogs they often add pictures or videos. All the blogs, except the one about conspiracy theories, have pictures in nearly every post. The conspiracy theory blog has a few videos though. The personal blogger has the best structure of all the blogs, because her blog is very modern and interesting. She blogs for fun and the readers look at her blog as entertainment. The other blogs are more serious and simple and usually other media is related to the topics. The personal blogger uses personal pictures so that the followers will get an update about what she’s doing in her life. The other blogs have pictures as well, and those pictures are about the topic that is being written about in the post. For example: The News blog posted a post about Libya, Yemen and Middle East and used a photo of anti-government protests in the Yemeni capital.

One major difference is that each of the post in the news, technology and politic blog are written by different people. However, the personal blog is written by an individual. The blog about conspiracy theories is mostly written by one individual, but sometimes by others.
The language between the blogs are quite different. The news, technology, scientology and politic blog use a more formal language. That is because their topics are more serious and important. The personal blogger writes in a more personal way. None of the blogs use any kind of slang or swearing. They all seem very appropriate. All of the blogs add sources to their blog posts. All these 5 blogs are giving people information about 5 different things. They are all typical blogs. They all combine text, images and videos to create a more interesting blog.
What is actually a blog? To me blog is a website were individuals (or more) can share information with others. It’s sort of like a personal diary, just that pretty much everyone can read it on internet. It’s a website where people can share pictures, videos and personal thoughts on everything and the person who keeps a blog is a “blogger”.
